Global Dhobi Ghat Press Conference - NyooTV

A movie which has garnered exceptional reviews at the Toronto International Flim Festival (TIFF) – Kiran Rao’s directorial debut ‘Dhobi Ghat’ promises to be a breakthrough movie with a subject that is radically different. The movie starring the ‘3 Idiot’ superstar Aamir Khan, will also present the ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ star Prateik Babbar as well as Monica Dogra and debutant Kriti Malhotra.

India has always been infamous for its caste differentiation, but there hasn’t been a movie which highlights this issue. Especially when it comes to a relationship, that too between couples at extreme ends of the society, there are bound to be sparks and retaliation from both ends. Talking at the press conference of the movie at TIFF, director Kiran Rao says that the idea of exploring the idea of class in Indian society was unique and experimenting with a couple with the individuals from dissimilar strata of the society was very exciting.

Kriti Malhotra, who plays the role of ‘Yasmin’ says that the camaraderie in the Dhobi Ghat camp was very good and this gave her the confidence to pull off a spectacular performance. She will be romanced by both the male leads in the movie, Prateek who plays the role of ‘Munna’ and Aamir who plays the role of ‘Arun’ in the movie. The other lead in the movie, Mona Dogra who makes her debut and plays the role of ‘Shai’ says that she was very comfortable as she didn’t have any preset benchmark or expectation to live up to and that helped her perform really well. The eccentric Prateik Babbar has every bit of a great actor in the making, and claims that he has been a fan of Aamir Khan since his ‘Andaaz Apna Apna’ days.

The charmer, the college-boy hairdo, and the dreamy eyed Aamir Khan was up and answering the reporters with mighty patience and good humor. The ‘Ghajini’ star criticized the Indian film distributors for looking down upon Indian films which premiere at International Film Festivals. He says that the image of ‘leaves’ besides a movie is wrongly taken as a movie not to be watched by the Indian audience. Talking about his wife, Aamir says he was pleasantly surprised by the talent that is there in Kiran Rao and is lucky to have married such a talented woman.
